Te Anau - Milford Sound

And back to Te Anau

semi-overcast 10 °C

Today we woke up to clouds over the mountains across Lake Te Anau... driving to Milford Sound we were spoilt with the clouds lifting and beauty around every corner! Including a beautiful waterfall on the side of the road we stopped and walked back to.
The Mirror lakes were a little less 'mirrored' than usual today with the fish and ducks causing a stir in the water, but still beautiful.
We experienced the Homer Tunnel and had a nice Venison pie at Milford Sound.
We boarded our cruise and departed at 2:45pm, wow!
We learnt a lot about the formation and discovery of the the fiord and surrounds. We saw seals basking in the sun, dolphins in the distance and a huge cruise ship which was dwarfed by the epic mountains!
Richard was brave enough to get doused by a glacier fed waterfall, but I chickened out.
Our skipper was brilliant and our nature narrator was so knowledgable we could have listened to him all day!
On the drive back to Te Anau we stopped at the Homer tunnel and went for a walk and stood on avalanche rocks. The Kea's paid us a visit in the car park and we committed a mortal sin.... we fed them a cookie haha! They are the only known Alpine Parrot in the world FYI! And we felt honoured to have met them and seen them up close. Not sure the dude who had left his car too long and they had stolen the rubber seal from the car door is going to feel the same way!
Richie stood in the top of the original entrance to Homer Tunnel!
We found a beautiful Chinese restaurant in Te Anau and are so glad to be getting to bed!
Brilliant day!!!
